PHOTOGRAPHY BY JEFF SCHEAR (GAFFIGAN, MACLELLAN) clockwise from top left: Honoring Men's Issue cover star Jim Gaffigan with Bob Loquercio and my wife Sharon; celebrating Chicago Bulls guard Dwyane Wade's return to Chicago with Wade's long-time manager, Henry Thomas; feting Nigel Barker's new furniture line at Art Van Downers Grove with the man himself and the always lovely fashion designer Pamella DeVos of Pamella Roland; and enjoying a glamorous night for the Expo Chicago opening reception at the Vista Showroom with Mac MacLellan of Northern Trust, Kate Barch of BMW, Robin Tebbe of Magellan Development, and Expo Chicago founder Tony Karman. Having been a media executive for more than 30 years, I've had the pleasure of seeing the evolution of the digital ecosystem and how it complements traditional media. Social media, in particular, has allowed Michigan Avenue to amplify our voice and mission statement, which we (and myself) frequently document with the hashtag #MAMoments. It's much more than a catalog of our brand highlights—it's a real-time archive showcasing the evolution of our role in the community and marketplace. So at year's close, what are my favorite #MAMoments from 2016? Frankly, with so many to choose from, it's hard to fit on one page. Our Spring issue, featuring A-lister Naomi Watts, showcased our sexy redesign and newly-introduced Scene, Style, and Space categories, resulting in still-unwavering buzz. Our Summer edition, highlighting Art of the City talent Nick Cave, once again underscored Michigan Avenue—and GreenGale Publishing—as a steward to the arts community, which we recognize as vital to the identity of our city. Thanks to the support of our partners, we toasted Late Spring and Late Fall subjects Anna Chlumsky and Jim Gaffigan at the Vista Tower Sales Gallery and the revitalized Ocean Cut, respectively. And somewhere in between, we managed to throw the bash of the Summer at our fifth annual Ashore Thing party, pre - sented by BMO Harris Bank, in July at Navy Pier. People often approach me with the assumption that our team is bigger, that there's "no way" we do what we do at our size. But the surprise long wore off for me: With the dedication of the names that you see on our masthead, coupled with the backing of our valued support - ers, I've internalized and championed "small-but-mighty" as our guiding refrain. Get your hashtags ready: There are even bigger and better #MAMoments on the horizon.  . dan uslan LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT AND PUBLISHER 32  MICHIGANAVEMAG.COM
