PHOTOGRAPHY BY JEFF GALE RAISING THE BAR PHILANTHROPY MEETS DRINKING MEETS ANTIQUES AT REBAR. BY LAURA JANELLE DOWNEY After a bout with cancer, former Atomic Liquors co-owner Derek Stonebarger gained a new perspective. "It took the cancer to realize that there's more to life," he says. So the 40-year-old entrepre- neur figured out a way to do some good, while combining his loves of antiques and the bar business, by opening ReBar in the Arts District. "People liked the historic stuff on the wall at Atomic, but we weren't willing to sell it because we couldn't replace it. That's where the business model came from—an antiques store you can drink and shop in." Tell us about ReBar's charity angle. "We have five cocktails that raise money for local nonprof- its. The Nevada Preservation Foundation's drink is the Preservation Press. We're serving John Mull's sausages on Great Buns Bakery pretzel rolls [both are local businesses], with a portion donated to Three Square. You can help a lot of people when you have a business like a bar. There's a lot of money to go around." Why is ReBar's interior so special? "Everything is custom built and we've used a lot of recycled material. The bar top is made from a hardwood that came out of a local casino." What types of antiques do you sell? "We've got tons of cuckoo clocks, midcen- tury modern furniture, taxidermy, a 1960s console record player, McDonald's plate holders from 1984, local artwork, and more!" 1225 S. Main St., 702-349-2283 . Va va vintage! CLOCKWISE FROM TOP LEFT: ReBar's bar is fully stocked and ready to rock; drinking in your own living room was never this cool; the backyard offers ample space to drink and shop; kitsch abounds, like this leg lamp reminiscent of A Christmas Story.
