PhotograPhy by DaviD hernanDez (Pelago); Jeff Schear (yateS); barry brecheiSen/Wire image/getty imageS (laughlin) With thanks to Frank Sinatra (among other crooners), describ- ing Chicago as "my kind of town" has become immortalized in our shared vernacular. With good reason: A sports nut's kind of town? We have the Bears, Cubs, and other squads to thank for that. A foodie's kind of town? We have our famed restaurant roster--and its celebrity chefs--to cement that claim. No matter your interest, Chicago can be any kind of city to anyone. With the upcoming return of Expo Chicago, I'd venture to say it's also becoming an art buff's kind of town, too. Would I have made that claim five-plus years ago? Not necessarily. But now, with its fifth gathering of the art world's elite—helmed by industry impresario Tony Karman—the show has given Chicago consid- erable clout in the "art capital of the US" conversation once solely reserved for New York, Los Angeles, and Miami. Between September 22-25, thousands of visitors will pack into Navy Pier to admire works from 140 international exhibitors, turning the global art commu- nity's collective attention to the Midwest. To learn more, visit expochicago.com, and be sure to also follow Michigan Avenue's social media feeds as we share our favorite scenes from the weekend (want to share yours? Hashtag #EXPOChicago and #MAMoments so we can see your best pics!). Preceding Expo Chicago is another one of my favorite autumn traditions, the Evergreen Invitational, taking place September 10. Presented by the Wood-Prince family and benefiting Northwestern Memorial Hospital, the biannual equestrian event at Evergreen Farm is a mainstay in the Chicago philanthropy circuit; head to evergreeninvitational.org for more information. An afternoon of sun and sport for charity? That's my kind of Saturday. clockwise from above left: White party!
