All ThAT Glitters hakkasan group adds a shiny new jewel to its arsenal. RendeRing couRtesy of Hakkasan gRoup Glam rock! A glimmering entrance hints at all the facets of Jewel. Aesthetically speaking, Hakkasan Group's glitzy new Vegas venture, Jewel at Aria, is a far cry from the nightlife group's splashy Caesars Palace megaclub, Omnia. Behind both spaces, though, is the New York-based firm Rockwell Group, whose designers went the opposite direction in nightclub design, toning down the former Haze Nightclub to focus on a feeling of intimacy within the 24,000-square-foot room. "We're trying to create an experience that should feel very different from all the other clubs we know and see," says Shawn Sullivan, partner and studio leader at Rockwell Group. For clubgoers, that experi- ence begins at the space's tunnel-like entrance, now outfitted with a series of bronze arches and an antique chandelier, which progresses into a gem- toned main room whose pièce de résistance—a sweeping central staircase— connects to an upper-level mezzanine featuring five themed VIP boxes. "We really wanted this to feel like a cool grotto or speakeasy-type room with deep reds, rich woods, and even a lot of custom light fixtures you'd imagine seeing in a subterranean space in a great urban city," Sullivan says. "It's all about mystery—Jewel as the kind of place that doesn't reveal itself too easily." Opens May 19, 702-590-8000; jewelnightclub.com . vegasmagazine.com  117 SPACE Club
