Spring: a time of new beginnings, and looking forward. Las Vegas has welcomed 2016 in a way that is singularly Las Vegas, and we could not be more excited about both what we have offered the year thus far and what lies ahead. Vegas magazine recently sponsored the UNLV School of Law and the Brookings Institution's "Turbulent Waters: Brokering a Secure World: A Conference on Water Law and Policy." The event gathered many of the top minds in the US to discuss water planning, water markets, and economic develop- ment. Las Vegas, a desert region that has secured its own water resources for the coming decades, is fast becoming known for water management expertise. And our next area of expertise could be right around the corner. There's a new dean in town and her name is Barbara Atkinson. UNLV is launching a medical school, the first public allopathic school for Southern Nevada, and Dean Atkinson has raised local philanthropic support to offer full four-year scholarships for the first class of 60 students in 2018. America's doctors of tomorrow, will start right here in Las Vegas. In the end, we know it is our people who create and innovate the Las Vegas you experience every day. Like myself, the majority of us arrived from somewhere else and today call this expansive, open city our home. As you tour our locales, take a moment to talk to your servers and supporters—their stories are interesting and no two are alike except in their optimism for this town and its promise. Whether you venture here for a weekend retreat or to live, hope springs eternal. It's contagious. It's Las Vegas. .
