"We're trying to give guests a respite from the more exciting environment of the casino." — michael medeiros PhotograPhy courtesy of caesars Palace What a difference 50 years makes: Caesars Palace's original Roman Tower, seen here on the left, is celebrating a half-century with a bold new look and a new name: Julius. julius caesars! Caesars PalaCe marks 50 years with a full-scale revamp of its original roman tower. As Caesars Palace pre- pares to celebrate its 50th anniversary this year, the property entrusted a familiar face—interior designer Michael Medeiros, the creative director of the Los Angeles-based firm KNA Design—with the responsi- bility of revamping its iconic Roman Tower. Reborn in January as the Julius Tower, the 587-room centerpiece of the resort reflects "a more boutique- like" aesthetic, says Medeiros, whose previous collaborations with Caesars include outfitting several of the property's luxury villas. Julius Tower guestrooms now incorpo- rate neutral color palettes broken up by bursts of warm freesia and Aegean blue, as well as playful accents like mirrored headboards, chaise lounges reminiscent of traditional Grecian chairs, and custom artwork that merges old and new by layering drawings of Vegas-showgirl costumes over black-and-white photographs of classic Roman statues—a concept Medeiros describes as "perfect for Caesars because it shows guests the property doesn't take itself too seriously."
