Behind the story: "Ted Gonder ['Pocket
Ch

g
e',
page 80] was a great subject to work with—he's maybe the
first person from LA who told me he actually appreciates Chicago
winters, so I've got to give him respect for that. I also found out we
both were inf luenced by skateboarding and snowboarding while
growing up and have the injury stories and the scars to prove it. I
think that skateboarding has the potential to really foster ingenuity
and creativity in people, and Ted is a great example of that."
Favorite spot in Chicago: "The entirety of Lake Michigan. There
are a lot of
great things about the city, but I don't think you can beat
the natural resource that is one of the main reasons that Chicago is
where it is."
His inspiration: "
