PHOTOGRAPHY BY JEFF GALE (GIULIANO); BRYAN HAINER (RED ROCK CANYON) M ary Giuliano has come a long way since her first job, f luffing and folding other people's clothes at a Laundromat, while she was a student at Clark High School. As general manager of Vdara Hotel & Spa, Giuliano is in the business of relaxation. She spends at least 60 hours a week working on the St rip, ensuring that g uests of the resort are properly pampered. But while she's creating an oasis for tourists at Vdara, who relish its quieter, nongaming atmosphere and the serenit y of its eco-friendly spa, Giuliano also requires some time to recharge—after all, manag ing a massive hospitalit y operation is a far cr y from lying on one of its massage tables. So at the end of a long workday, she leaves behind the hustle and bustle of the St rip and melts into the quiet t ranquilit y of family life in Summerlin, where she has lived for the last 15 years with her husband and t wo children. "It was a family decision to move here. Summerlin really offers the limelight of the St rip, but with a t rue sense of communit y, and beautiful neighborhoods and parks. We love being removed from the actual cit y. "'Think time' is ver y important to me—time to just think with no outside dist ractions. Ever ybody needs some downtime to reach t heir peak potential. W hen I was working at Treasure Island, Scott Sibella [then its president and CEO], who is ver y into fitness, would always come up with these random ideas. One time, in an executive committee meeting, he brought t wo yoga inst ructors and had us doing st retches. It was my first time! Then I found Sherr y Goldstein and am now a loyal fan of her YOGA SANCTUARY. It's my favorite studio because the inst ructors have a t rue passion for the essence of yoga. "The first time I went to SAMBALATTE, with my daughter, it felt like I was in an urban cit y like New York or Chicago. A lot of places in Vegas are big and ostentatious, but continued on page 66 LEFT: Mary Giuliano at Sambalatte, which is devoted to offering ethically sourced products.
