BY IKRAM GOLDMAN I just discovered the most beautiful, whimsical, one-of-a-kind necklaces from the Prova collection by my favorite person Irini Arakas. Irini is a DJ-slashartist-slash-writer—she's divine—and what's really incredible is that she's not necessarily a designer or a trendsetter or a stylist; she's the kind of person who creates the accessory for the season. She recently did these scarves embellished with fringe that were gorgeous, but her latest collection is just as amazing. The pieces are done on a base of clay and inlaid with all of these unique objects that she finds all over the place: shards from a mirror, a pearl from a pearl necklace, or resin flowers. Each one is unique, and what I love is how she's incredibly playful with her images—a tiger with flowers, a monkey, a microphone, sunglasses, swords, cherries. She takes a current moment in culture and expands on it in a way that is so playful and not vulgar; that's what speaks to me. Each of the strands is unique in size and shape and length and complements the base, which is another thing that makes them so unique —IKRAM GOLDMAN and fun. To me, these necklaces are the outfit. You could renew or revamp an old sweater or a great jacket by having a piece like this and giving it a whole new life. That's exactly how I felt the first time I put one on—like I could just start throwing this on with all my old Alaïa and Nina Ricci dresses, because that's what Irini's pieces will do.
