Behind the story: "I didn't try anything at Mana Food Bar, but the food smelled amazing ['The Big Picture,' page 88]. I did just have the Mana chili at Half Acre Beer Company's charitable cook-off, and I was really impressed." Favorite Chicago spot: "Hema's Kitchen." His inspiration: "Photography provides the opportunity to explore unusual places and stare at people and things a little too long without being creepy." New Year's resolution: "Making resolutions normally backfires, so I'll just enjoy life more and work less." Lisa Skolnik Credentials: Lisa Skolnik has written for Brian Guido Credentials: A native of the Detroit area who is now based in Chicago, Brian Guido has photographed for clients including Bloomberg Businessweek, SPIN, Chicago Magazine, Orbit Gum, Nike, General Electric, and more. Behind the story: "Meeting everyone really got me thinking of my own time for reinvention ['Agents of Change,' page 120]. It's tough getting caught up in the daily grind; my personal health often gets tossed to the back burner." Favorite Chicago spot: "Longman & Eagle for a bite and a drink, and the Garfield Park Conservatory for an escape from winter." His inspiration: "Having a camera has been such a key to locked doors I may not get into—there's always something new." New Year's resolution: "I always need a month or two after the New Year to come up with the goals I want to accomplish for the year. I should probably change that... maybe next year?" 32 dozens of major newspapers and magazines and authored 15 books. More importantly for her story on The 606, she was born in zip code 60615; grew up in 60637 and 60625; raised four children in 60613; and now lives in 60657. Behind the story: "It's hard not to be enamored with a project like The 606 ['Trail-Blazing, Chicago Style,' page 129], which will exponentially improve the quality of life for so many Chicago residents." Favorite Chicago spot: "The Millennium Park band shell." New Year's resolution: "Find a three-flat to buy in 60647." Danny O'Leary Credentials: An illustrator and fine artist for 27 years, Danny O'Leary's clients include GQ, HarperCollins, Oxford University Press, Random House, SEGA, Simon & Schuster, Virgin Atlantic, and more. Behind the story: "After living in New York for 25 years, I'm very biased in the NY vs. Chicago pizza war ['We're Numero Uno,' page 144]. An expert at NY's fold-and-go method after eating thousands of slices on the run, how could I possibly even consider Chicag—oh, forget it: I love Pizzeria Uno." New Year's resolution: "First, I'm wishing everyone a peaceful year. Second is my desire to head to San Diego to have one of their supposedly 'best' slices of pizza under a palm tree. Everything is better under a palm tree." MICHIGANAVEMAG.COM 032_MA_FOB_Contribs_Winter2014.indd 32 11/20/13 11:13 AM
