High Spirits DAVID BART, EXECUTIVE VP AND GM, SOUTHERN WINE & SPIRITS OF NEVADA When giving a bottle of tequila like the Gran Patrón Burdeos, how best to tell the recipient that it's really special? Just describe it: It's aged and racked in oak barrels, which gives it an unusual characteristic; it's also more mellow because it's been aged quite awhile. Of course, it comes in the most beautiful box imaginable— velvet-lined black walnut wood. The bottle itself is crystal. That alone shows just how special it is. Would it be a crime to make a margarita with it? Probably, but I'm not going to tell people how to drink anything—as long as they drink it! It's definitely for sipping, for a tequila drinker who wants something a little different. Grand Marnier—that seems very holiday-appropriate. Yes. Any of them are good for topping off a margarita, but it's enjoyed as much if not more in a snifter—not even on the rocks. You can also make a Champagne cocktail with it.
