BY LAURIE BROOKINS S alvatore Ferragamo launched his career in Los Angeles—in the earliest days of silent cinema, he was known as "Shoemaker to the Stars"—but he had returned to his native Italy to establish his eponymous label long before Las Vegas hit its glamorous stride in the 1950s. Still, one can't help but wonder what Ferragamo, who loved the dazzle of Hollywood, might have thought of the Strip and its glittering Rat Pack years. "He loved the idea of celebrity, that is for certain," says Massimiliano Giornetti, creative director of Salvatore Ferragamo since 2010 (he joined the label as its menswear designer in 2000). "From very early on, we have enjoyed a close association with celebrities, so Vegas would have been something I think he would love."
