Yet each week, a crowd of 765,000—nearly the population of San Francisco—comes to visit. Our publisher, Joe Vann, explains this more creatively: "Clap your hands once each second for a visitor and you'd clap for almost nine days." Not up for this palmnumbing experiment? That was nearly 40 million hand claps last year. Las Vegas has all the down-home advantages of Mayberry, if Mayberry had, say, a Joël Robuchon or Guy Savoy a convenient elevator ride away from a covered parking garage. Where many run into their neighbors at the supermarket, I run into mine at the top of our Eiffel Tower. This will never cease to amuse me. Perhaps it's because of our relatively small size that the stewards of our arts, education, and community stand out so prominently. Or perhaps it's because Vegas Gives. This is the fifth annual issue in which we have spotlighted women investing Follow me on Twitter at their resources and time into our city. It @andreabennett1 and on has been my privilege to meet some of vegasmagazine.com. them and reconnect with others. In the past month, I've been out and about, taking in some incredible opportunities. In one beautiful home, I got a sneak peak at Lanvin's Summer 2014 precollection; in another, I celebrated the Las Vegas Philharmonic's 15th season with local luminaries and a few honorary Las Vegans. We took a private tour of the groundbreaking Frank Gehry – designed Cleveland Clinic Lou Ruvo Center for Brain Health with the gracious Camille Ruvo. Small-town hospitality, big-city privileges. As always, we're elevating the conversation, both about those who pass through our town for a one-night engagement and about those who are here for the long haul, making Las Vegas a center of culture, scientific research, and generosity. I'll clap for that. PHOTOGRAPHY BY 'LOS (VALASTRO, WYNN, CEBULKO); ALT F PHOTOGRAPHY (LANVIN) Every so often, I like to roll Vegas's numbers around in my head.
