At 5 years old, I was sold. My aesthetics—and Vegas's skyline—have evolved since then (I kicked off my first week as editor-in-chief with a glitzy party at Mandarin Oriental's beautiful pool), but my feelings about this city are still as true and simple as they were when I had a cotton candy in one hand and a ticket to ride in the other. I still get the same burst of excitement when I see our skyline, with its miles-high light beam and unlikely mash-up of the world's iconic buildings, plus its pioneering sculptural architecture and its vertiginous new observation wheel. Who needs another city steeped in its own gravitas? Las Vegas offers a little escape from your real-world concerns, and sophistication in spades—with a wink. But look beneath the trappings of the world's premier playground and you'll find—as we do in the pages of Vegas Follow me on Twitter at magazine—the philanthropists and @andreabennett1 and on vegasmagazine.com. technology innovators, the fashion and food pioneers who so enrich this city, both for those who visit and for those who live here. I have been flitting in and out of Vegas as a reporter, writer, and my friends' unofficial trip planner for many years. Two years ago I packed up my then-2-year-old daughter and moved here for good. Now to have the opportunity to be just a little part of Vegas history—well, that required no deliberation at all. I'm delighted to join Vegas magazine and hope you enjoy this issue as much as I do. I'm still as starry-eyed as I was when I got my first glimpse of this city, and I expect that won't change. If you need proof, you'll find me at Circus Circus, a cotton candy in one hand and a little girl holding her ticket to ride in the other.
