...WITHOUT WHOM THIS ISSUE WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN POSSIBLE SUMMER 2013 eli segall Henderson resident Eli Segall, who wrote our "Haute Property" story on $10 million homes, covers real estate, finance, and other business topics for our sister publications Las Vegas Sun and Vegas Inc. Are you a Las Vegas native? I was born in Michigan but grew up in Los Gatos, California. I moved to the Valley last July. First impressions from your first year? Cheap rent, good food, and no shortage of colorful news. And I like Downtown—I'd live there if it were closer to my office in Green Valley. Where will you be spending your free time this summer? Near an air conditioner. al mancini Las Vegas restaurant critic Al Mancini, host of the upcoming Travel Channel series All Forked Up, dined with headliner Coco Austin and interviewed Rick Moonen for this issue. What's your favorite restaurant in town? Lisa Arcella has interviewed celebrities such as Halle Berry and Richard Gere for numerous publications including Vegas, InTouch Weekly, McCall's. For this issue, she talked with our cover star, Chrissy Teigen. Was Chrissy as funny in person as she is online? Chrissy has a sense that her beauty can be a little intimidating, so she immediately puts people at ease by laughing so much and cracking jokes, mostly at her own expense. I rode the elevator with her after the shoot, and she was complaining that no one had ever asked her to go to the prom. Then she turned to the middle-aged UPS man nearby to ask if he would take her to the prom. He couldn't have said yes any more quickly! Do you follow her on Twitter? I have never seen another celebrity engage their fans the way she does on social media. It's addicting. She tells them every crazy thing that happens to her—good and bad. rony shram Our Chrissy Teigen cover story was shot by New York–based photographer Rony Shram, whose work has also appeared in British Elle, Russian Vogue, Flaunt, and our sister publication Ocean Drive. What was Chrissy like? She and I had spent nearly a week shooting together in the Bahamas, so we already knew each other. She is a blast: fun, spontaneous, down for anything. What kind of music did you listen to? Lots of Beyoncé—and anything high-energy. Favorite spot on the Strip? Otto Enoteca Pizzeria at Venetian. Even though Mario Batali has loads of restaurants back home in NYC, dinner there is my Vegas tradition. PHOTOGRAPHY BY BRYAN ADAMS/HUNTINGTON PRESS (MANCINI) lisa arcella If I had to pick one, I'd probably say L'Atelier de Joël Robuchon. It's casual and fun but offers some of the most amazing gourmet cuisine in America. What are your impressions of Rick Moonen? I've always been impressed with Rick's dedication to protecting the world's oceans. He's also the kind of guy who almost never says no when asked to lend his support to a local cause. Of Coco? She's an anti-diva. 26 VEGASMAGAZINE.COM 026_V_FOB_Contribs_Sum13.indd 26 6/17/13 12:27 PM
