BY MARISA RANDALL Journey Weezer Brad Paisley has come a long way from his roots in West Virginia, and he's turning into a hot commodity right here in our town. After performing at the Academy of Country Music Awards (he's got 14 of them, by the way) in Vegas in April, he'll make another visit for an August 31 show at Mandalay Bay. Mandalay Bay, 702-632-4760; mandalaybay.com The arena rock specialists perform their blockbuster karaoke mainstays at The Pearl on August 28 and 29. Guitarist Neal Schon, meanwhile, hasn't stopped believing in local headliner Carlos Santana, in whose band he got his start: The pair are planning to join other original Santana members to release an album next year. Palms Casino Resort, 702-9443200; palms.com The alternative-rock band Weezer formed in LA in the early '90s, but they'll be cooling off Vegas-style at Cosmopolitan's Boulevard Pool on July 27. A fantastic summer concert venue, the multilevel open-air space has plenty of choice viewing spots, but premium cabana tickets are the VIP way to go. Cosmopolitan, 702-698-7778; cosmopolitanlasvegas.com Counting Crows and The Wallflowers These two bands hit the jackpot during the '90s alternative-rock movement, with Counting Crows scoring their signature hit, "Mr. Jones," and the Jakob Dylan– fronted Wallflowers delivering the smash "One Headlight." Now both have a matured look and sound, new albums released last year, and plenty of new material to rock Mandalay Beach. Mandalay Bay, 702-632-4760; mandalaybay.com Les Misérables With Boublil and Schönberg's acclaimed musical gaining legions of new fans thanks to the hit film, the 25th-anniversary touring production is breaking box-office records. With new staging and scenery, it will play the Smith Center August 7 to 11, but audiences will still be crying for "One Day More." The Smith Center, 702-749-2000; thesmithcenter.com Widespread Panic The jam band teams up with the renowned Dirty Dozen Brass Band on July 12 and 13 at The Joint. Known for never playing the same set twice, Widespread Panic are dedicated to turning their concerts into food drives, raising funds and collecting canned goods for local food banks via Feeding People Through Music. Hard Rock Hotel & Casino, 702693-5222; hardrockhotel.com Hall & Oates The 41-date tour of two bands with nine Grammy nominations between them hits Mandalay Bay's Events Center on July 19. Both groups embodied alt-rock in the '90s, and both released albums recently: Matchbox Twenty's North, featuring the single "She's So Mean," and the Goo Goo Dolls' Magnetic, their 10th studio offering. Mandalay Bay, 702-632-4760; mandalaybay.com Chart-topping, recordsmashing Bruno Mars returns to Vegas to light up MGM Grand. Luckily for local fans, Bruno Mars's 2010 brush with the law at Hard Rock has not kept the poker enthusiast away from Vegas. He'll get a chance to polish his local rep when his Moonshine Jungle Tour hits the MGM Garden Arena on August 3. Mars, who racked up five number-one songs faster than any male solo artist since Elvis Presley, is currently enjoying a huge (and racy) hit, "Locked Out of Heaven," from his chart-topping second album, Unorthodox Jukebox.
