...WITHOUT WHOM THIS ISSUE WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN POSSIBLE SUMMER/FALL 2013 pete mcbride Native Coloradan Pete McBride has spent almost two decades studying the world with his camera, traveling to more than 60 countries on assignment for the National Geographic Society, Smithsonian, Esquire, Men's Journal, and others. In trailing Andy Mill for "The Art of Angling" (page 122), what were you most surprised to learn? I knew Andy was a world-class fisherman, but I didn't realize how accomplished and fanatical he was about it. Catching a blue marlin on a fly rod is impressive. What is the coolest image you captured through your lens during this excursion? Andy fishing above the water and a fish on the line below—a challenging shot with an underwater housing, but always rewarding if it comes out. alison berkley margo Local freelance journalist Alison Berkley Margo writes for a variety of publications, including The New York Times, Outside, and Skiing magazines, as well as penning her award-winning column in The Aspen Times, "The Princess's Palate." You wrote about the Food & Wine Classic (page 180). Do Aspenites really anticipate this event all winter? Food & Wine is the holy michael kors New York-based fashion designer Michael Kors had a life-long of love of fashion that he translated into a successful womenswear label in 1981 and a menswear line in 2002. Known for dressing a host of celebrities, Kors also famously designed the black dress First Lady Michelle Obama wore in her 2009 official portrait. What's something new that you learned about Aerin Lauder while working on our cover story (page 118)? After knowing Aerin for almost 20 years, I never thought of her as a hiker—a chic one at that. What do you most admire about Aerin Lauder's sense of style? Her laid-back, elegant simplicity. Who's the one celebrity you'd most like to dress? Kate Middleton. What are your plans for the summer? To not get on a plane! jordan campbell Accomplished skier and mountaineer Jordan Campbell has emerged as a dedicated writer, and in 2011 he started the Ambassador Athlete Program at Marmot, an outdoor clothing and sporting goods company. What do you love about Colorado? I treasure the turnkey access to the outdoors, and the quality of people is unparalleled. How did the Marmot program come about? We were already supporting great global stewards. It made sense to provide a platform for their causes and give their message a bigger voice through Marmot. What did you learn from working to cure blindness in South Sudan ("Vision Quest" page 70)? That I must really love doing this kind of work—even if my efforts amount to small advances in people's lives. It's three days of decadence under electric-blue skies with the backdrop of the mountains. What is your favorite topic to write about? Aspen. I love writing about it for the same reason I love Aspen: It is the perfect blend of a small mountain town with a big, cosmopolitan spirit. 34 ASPENPEAK-MAGAZINE.COM 034_AP_FOB_Contribs_SUM_Fall_13.indd 34 5/7/13 12:34 PM
