TIME HONORED white nights THE 2013 SWISS WATCH SHOWS REVEALED THE HOTTEST HUE FOR THE SEASON, AND IT IS MAKING ASPEN WOMEN WILD FOR WHITE. BY ROBERTA NAAS PHOTOGRAPHY BY JEFF GALE W ith this year's Baselworld and Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie setting the standard for style and substance in the realm of timepieces, summer finds white watches all the rage—especially for the smart females of Aspen. In addition to a glowing appeal on the sun-kissed skin of our town's outdoorsy women, these fine watches offer time at a glance in the most highly crafted and thoughtfully designed manner. According to Robin Smith of Meridian Jewelers, "White is the most sought-after shade of the season in women's timepieces." Specifically, she notes, "Aspen women, who are discerning watch buyers and demand the highest quality, are scooping up A. Lange & Söhne's Saxonia," as locals especially favor these products, she says, when they "have the added bonus of coming in the hottest hue on the market." This Van Cleef & Arpels Alhambra Talisman 40mm timepiece ($32,200) from the Vintage Alhambra collection comes in 18k white gold as well as 18k rose gold with a diamond case and sculpted mother-of-pearl dial. 400 E. Hyman Ave., 888-984-4822; vancleefarpels.com Fendi's revolutionary Crazy Carats watch ($6,300) features 3.9 carats of gemstones. More important is the fact that this Swiss-made watch houses a patented rolling mechanical system that enables the user to change the color of the gemstone markers with the turn of the crown, creating a unique timepiece for every occasion. Each watch is set with three different colored gemstones per hour marker (except 12, where there is a stationary diamond) on a rolling satellite, so the versatile Aspenite can change the gem colors displayed on the dial to match any mood. 208 South Mill St., 970-920-3100; fendi.com From A. Lange & Söhne, this elegant Ladies Saxonia Automatic watch ($43,100) is crafted in 18k rose gold and houses the self-winding Lange Manufacture Caliber Lo86.4 with 209 parts. The movement is made of German silver, lavishly engraved and finished, and visible via a sapphire crystal caseback. Meridian Jewelers, 525 E.
