...WITHOUT WHOM THIS ISSUE WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN POSSIBLE MAY/JUNE 2013 katrina concepcion Las Vegas native Katrina Concepcion, a former Vegas intern, hit up our favorite Mexican restaurants to pen this issue's "Imbibe" page on Cinco de Mayo (page 168). What will you be drinking on Cinco de Mayo? Strawberry margaritas are my favorite. Cabo Wabo, inside Miracle Mile Shops, makes theirs with orange liqueur, strawberry purée, and their house tequila blanco. What is your favorite holiday? Valentine's Day! Las Vegas is a good place to live it up with a girls' night out at a show on the nightlife scene—or be wined and dined. erik kabik Erik Kabik's passion for food photography ("To 10 Years, Santé!," page 100) is matched only by his love of shooting rock concerts. His photo collection "Classic Rock for the Future: Vol. 1" is on display at John Varvatos stores. What are your favorite places to go in the city? Wherever live music is happening, from large concert venues to small lounges. And Vegas has great outlets to enjoy everything from fine dining to great food-truck fare. What do you like about living here? Three-time Las Vegas Entertainer of the Year Clint Holmes, who looks back on the last 10 years of Vegas entertainment in our anniversary feature (on page 130), performs in a monthly residency at Cabaret Jazz at the Smith Center. What do you love most about Vegas? The interaction and friendships with other entertainers. We learn from each other, support each other, commiserate and laugh with each other. What one show did you enjoy most over the last decade? Opening night of the Smith Center, because of its importance for our community. Every person sitting in the audience that night felt an incredible sense of pride and kinship. What are you looking forward to seeing in town in the near future? This city was built on entertainers and their personalities. I hope we see more resorts going back to identifying and supporting that kind of "in one" performer. 36 Being part of a city that is ever-changing and growing. There is a real sense of being a pioneer in a city that reinvents itself so often. oscar goodman Being Oscar, former Las Vegas Mayor Oscar Goodman's memoir about his days as a mob lawyer and his 12 years as the happiest mayor in the universe, hits bookstores June 4. To celebrate Vegas's 10th anniversary, he talks about our city's accomplishments on page 136. Do you miss being mayor? Every moment. But it's better sleeping with the mayor. What was the hardest part of writing your memoir? Trying to condense the various experiences under one cover. In Being Oscar II, we'll tell the rest of it. Your book is published by the Weinsteins. Who would you want to play you in a movie version? Whoever is the handsomest actor of the time.
