FROM THE EDITOR-IN-CHIEF fabulous years I toasted Las Vegas icons Penn & Teller during a party celebrating their 20 years here, their recordbreaking extended contract—and their Vegas magazine cover. Distribution manager Rebekah Zimlich and I met up with our Spring cover star, Steve Carell. ABOVE: My fabulous hair and makeup artist, Amber Harlan, of Hotbox salon, and I hit Hyde Bellagio for one of our "List" parties. LEFT: I visited the Vegas magazine creative team in NYC (CLOCKWISE FROM TOP LEFT): photo editor Seth Olenick, me, managing editor Karen Rose, copy editor David Fairhurst, art director Tiffani Barton, and research editor Murat Oztaskin. PHOTOGRAPHY BY AL POWERS (HARLAN); CHERI KEATING (CARELL); REBECCA SAHN (TEAM VEGAS); LOS (PENN & TELLER) Do you ever wonder what opportunities you would find and what people you would meet if you could go through life as carefree as we were during those fun years right after college? I think back to 2003, the year that Vegas magazine was born. I'd been working really long hours in New York for just enough years to be above entry level and a bit jaded, but still wrapped up in the romance of late-night deadlines and drop-everything breaking news stories. I was starting to tire of the grind that comes with working at weekly magazines, but I was still emphatically "up for anything." Still, if you had told me then that 10 years later I'd be gearing up for the celebration of the decade in Las Vegas, I would have laughed in disbelief. Five moves later, I am settled into this desert town that's home to the wonderful entertainment mecca the Strip. Every night is a new show's premiere, a charity event, or a five-star meal with friends who visit Vegas from all over the world. I work with supportive, fun, and, above all, smart and talented people, both my creative team in NYC ( PIC TURED, BOTTOM LEFT) and our group here in Vegas ( PICTURED ON THE NEXT PAGE with my esteemed publisher, Josef Vann). Looks like I won't have to move ever again. I am so proud of what our magazine has accomplished in its first 10 years, reflected in the stories you're about to read. I have lived and breathed this issue, painstakingly Follow me on Twitter at planning every page for so many months, @abbytegnelia and on but it is time to let go and turn it over to vegasmagazine.com. you. So as we move into Vegas's 10th birthday celebration, I present the people who make this tremendous town tick, reflections on and highlights of the last decade—and a brief glimpse into the future. Speaking of our future, let's think big these next 10 years and be "up for anything," like wiser versions of our carefree 22-year-old selves. We live in a town that takes chances, so it's about time we do that in our personal lives, too. In Vegas, the opportunities are limitless. Happy birthday, Vegas.
