REAL ESTATE NEWS grand ambitions T he Grandview at Las Vegas is growing grander. The swanky South Strip resort is spending $55 million to add an eighth tower, marking the time-share complex���s first new building since 2009. As it stands, Grandview (vacationvillageresorts.com) has completed more than 1,850 rooms in a combination of 12-story Andre Agassi and 20-story buildings since construction began in 2003. The 699-square-foot rooms include fully equipped kitchens, washers, dryers, and Jacuzzi tubs. Grandview guests also gain access to a handful of waterfall pools as well as a fitness center, barbecue and picnic area, snack bar, and game room. Grandview���s newest 20-story, 400-unit addition is scheduled to be finished in mid-2013. Completion of the 46-acre development will come none too soon for the red-hot time-share industry, which nationally saw $6.5 billion in sales in 2011. ���Time-shares offer a scheduled reprieve for busy professionals who might not otherwise take time for a vacation,��� says John Restrepo of RCG Economics. The ��berhot Hakkasan is taking up residency inside the MGM Grand (mgmgrand.com). The Chinese hot spot will occupy the former Studio 54, which closed last January. The venue has since been rebuilt to create a five-level food and entertainment complex, spanning more than 75,000 square feet, that is The future Wet ���n��� Wild scheduled to open this spring. Hakkasan Las Vegas. will contain two mezzanines, including one that supports a large private dining room and lounge. An enclosed rooftop terrace, meanwhile, will have additional bars and dance floors. Hakkasan began as a high-class modern Chinese restaurant in London in 2001 and has since expanded to Miami, New York, Abu Dhabi, Dubai, San Francisco, and Mumbai. Angel Management Group���the hipster wizards behind LAX and Pure���will oversee the Vegas outpost. Caesars Entertainment is spending $185 million to spruce up Mr. Bill���s neighborhood. The venerable Bill���s Gamblin��� Hall & Saloon is 122 BY TONY ILLIA being transformed into a stylish boutique hotel and casino that will open in 2014 under a new name (caesars.com). The $11.5 million, 198-room hotel-casino opened in March 1979 as the Barbary Coast; it was renamed in 2007 after being acquired by Harrah���s (now Caesars). The renovation will revamp 186 existing guest rooms and 12 suites, plus the 17,200-square-foot casino floor and common areas. A 12,000-square-foot second-floor restaurant is being added at the property���s southwest corner. Other additions include a 65,000 -square-foot rooftop splash pool and a dayclub/nightclub that will be handled by Bill���s Gamblin��� Hall & Saloon. Drai Management Group, which is behind XS and Tryst���and the former Grandview Bill���s late-night club, Drai���s. under construction. It���s time to pack up the Wham-O Slip ���N Slide���Sum merlin is getting a fulltilt water park. Locals and tourists bemoaned the closure of Wet ���n Wild in 2004 after nearly 20 years in operation along the Strip. Now the more than $50 million Wet ���n��� Wild Las Vegas is taking shape at 7055 South Fort Apache Road (wetnwildlasvegas.com). The 41-acre water park will feature more than 25 slides of various curves and nerves. Canyon Cliffs, for example, sends riders racing through a four-story free fall at speeds of up to 33 feet per second. For those looking to kick back, there���s a 1,000-foot-long winding lazy river called the Colorado Cooler. Splash Island is a five-zone, 10,500-squarefoot children���s area with geysers and nine mini-slides. There are also the 57-foot Hoover Half Pipe, which recreates a Category 5 river rapid experience, and a 17,000-square-foot wave pool with three-foot-high swells. Project backers include Andre Agassi and Steffi Graf, the Howard Hughes Corporation, and Village Roadshow Limited (51 percent owners), which will also manage the park.
