FROM THE EDITOR-IN-CHIEF Chicago is a city of icons: architectural icons like the John Hancock Center and the Wrigley Building. Cultural icons like the Art Institute and The Field Museum. Culinary icons like Everest and Alinea. These are the places that, to many people, define the best of Chicago. But even more important to our status as one of the worlds greatest cities, I would argue, are the iconic people who have helped make Chicago the place it is today. Entrepreneurs and leaders of industry, elected officials and philanthropists, artists and musiciansthis town hums with the energy of brilliant minds working to make the Windy City a leader on all fronts. At Michigan Avenue, its our mission to celebrate these Chicago icons present and futurethe people who are playing a crucial role in teaching, leading, entertaining, inspiring, and enriching the lives of their fellow Chicagoansand we revel in it. From world-famous fashion photographer Victor Skrebneski to emerging stars like actress Tamberla Perry and Rebuilding Exchanges Elise Zelechowski (all of whom are profiled in the pages of this issue), Follow me on Twitter these are just a few of the personali@JP_Anderson and at ties who make us proud to call this michiganavemag.com. town home. Its particularly fitting that our cover star this month should be an American icon himself: Chicago-raised actor Harrison Ford. With his epic portrayals as Han Solo and Indiana Jones in classic films Star Wars and Raiders of the Lost Ark, respectively, Ford has come to represent the epitome of upstanding masculine American character, and in reality hes no differentpassionate about doing good, both in his work on behalf of Conservation International and with his new film 42, which spotlights Jackie Robinsons triumphant struggle over segregation in Major League Baseball. We would expect nothing less of a native Chicagoan, and were thrilled that hes helping us welcome back spring to the Windy City.
